I'm done! I defended my dissertation on May 4, 2009. I'm currently working on a number of interesting projects, including a consulting engagement with Pattern Insight Inc., for whom I'm developing efficient, scalable algorithms and architectures for pattern-based search and analysis of source code and systems data. I'm always open to hearing about interesting new projects. You can contact me via email at sameer@sundresh.org

For my Ph.D. thesis, I created and studied language constructs to express the interactions between program components operating at multiple different levels of abstraction. An important goal of this work is to be able to run program fragments in dynamic custom language contexts, which alter or specialize some language features. This is useful for applications such as automatic sandboxing and development of domain-specific languages.

In the past, I have worked on wireless sensor networks. Because they are deployed in the field and left unattended, sensor networks are a good example of an application domain for which better programming languages would be useful.

Several years ago, I developed the content management system for this very website you're reading (the design came from an earlier site prototype, however—I didn't even know CSS at the time).

As an undergraduate and in high school, I also did significant independent projects related to operating systems, virtualization, and low-level x86 programming. I continue to be interested in these topics, as well.

Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions or comments on my work, or interesting ideas you'd like to discuss.
